Intent

At Ashford Hill Primary School, we aim to fulfil our school vision in all learning and life experiences (as above). We promote an environment where all children feel known, accepted, and valued as individuals, within a caring community. We believe that it is fundamental for the children to belong to a safe and nurturing community, founded on strong values and behaviours where children will develop an array of skills that will enable them to make their own positive contribution to our global society. During their time at Ashford Hill Primary School we want to develop pupils’ knowledge and understanding of Christianity and other world religions. Through our learning behaviours, we teach pupils to develop respect for others and their beliefs which helps to challenge prejudice.

Implementation

Our whole curriculum is shaped by our school vision. We teach the National Curriculum, supported by a clear skills and knowledge progression. This ensures that skills and knowledge are built on year by year to maximise learning for all children. Our RE teaching is informed by our locally agreed syllabus for Hampshire – Living Difference IV. By using this scheme, we are ensuring children are given the opportunity to become religiously literate. Children will explore the different concepts in a range of inspiring activities as they move through the school, starting in Reception and developing a great depth of understanding by the time they reach Year 6. Living Difference IV offers an educative approach to religious education, emphasising a process of enquiry into concepts.

Impact

The impact of our curriculum is measured through a range of assessment strategies to assess pupils’ learning including summative, formative and qualitative. Summative assessment will capture progress at key points throughout the curriculum, is subject specific and supports adapted planning for next steps. Formative assessment is ongoing across all subjects with teachers providing feedback opportunities day by day and week by week.

The Principal and other key staff will review the curriculum through learning walks and the evaluation of planning and children’s work.
